10:18 pm - PERU

We returned on Monday morning from our trip to Peru. I took some notes on the trip to help me reconstruct it, but this is written in hindsight. It was an amazing journey - from sea level to over 4,000 m., and from modern to ancient and back again. Dallas to Cuzco, day 1 and 2Collapse )

11:27 pm - Shameless Plug - Xposted to Oakenking
Anyone who's going to be in Dallas on Saturday - I'll be down at the Dallas City Hall Plaza at Pagan Pride Day, selling soaps and fizzing bath seltzers. If you're in town, drop by and say howdy and shop! If you're not... keep your fingers crossed for good weather and lots of buying!

2:23 pm - Soap
I'm loving the new soap molds! They make such a nice even loaf of soap. I'm going to have to figure out a slightly different label, though, because it's a somewhat more square bar. I'm realizing that it's also a little larger - although I need to make that determination after I've made a few batches, and done all the dressing and trimming. Comparing my old trimmed bars to the new un-trimmed ones isn't exactly fair.

I've agreed to vend at a Pagan Pride Day event next month - not sure about how this is going to go, as I've never sold stuff at an event like this before, but I figure it's a fairly low-profile happening, so if it's not a big success it won't be a big outlay either. I'm kind of conflicted, because I'm going to have some of the "new mold" soap alongside some of the "old mold" soap, and I'm not sure how they'll compare. It's SO much easier to use the new molds, though - I'll just figure out a way to attractively package two slightly different kinds, and arrange them so that they look OK with each other. I'm also not sure if I'll end up needing to charge slightly more - or if I'll need to change the fill level a little to make them weigh the same as the old mold soaps.

Peppermint-Patchouli and Spearmint-Patchouli night before last, Orange Flower and Yellow Rose last night... probably do Chocolate and Nag Champa tonight, and call it good for the show. That will give me the requisite month for everything to dry and cure. I also need to make up a bunch of the fizzing bath seltzers, which seem to be be doing better than the soap for me, lately.

1:16 pm - Last night, today
Poured nine pounds of soap yesterday - 4.5 each of spearmint-patchouli and peppermint-patchouli; I'm behind, trying to get some soap caught up, I've been kind of burned out on making it for a while. The new soap molds worked absolutely perfect - turned out the loaves this morning, and they'll be ready to slice tonight. I should make more tonight - probably flowery scents, like Orange Flower and Yellow Rose. Not my personal favorites, but they sell well.

We had a good friend over for dinner - I've known Christina since I was in college. She's an art teacher, and we always have a good time together. I fixed salad with raspberry vinaigrette and cojito anejo cheese; Italian-sausage lasagne with button mushrooms and peppers, with Yuba sheets for noodles to make it low-carb; a sautee' of portobello mushrooms, onion, and zucchini, seasoned with cinnamon basil from the garden; and dark chocolate mousse with raspberries for dessert. It was pretty yummy.

Work is going OK, nothing horrible happening, but nothing fantastic happening. Tonight: More soap, if that still seems like a good idea after work, and also yoga class with the same caveat.

11:58 am - Which reminded me...
of this interesting set of codes: Warning: male nudity ahead
It's from Physique Pictorial, which was a hot gay men's magazine before there were gay men's magazines...

It makes me wonder if the photographer was an alchemist. That looks like alchemical symbology, with a few additions...

11:55 am - Loved this one...
THE doctor purses his lips, looks at you pityingly over his half-moon spectacles and quietly writes something on his clipboard, something short, sharp and authoritative.

He turns away to answer the phone and you seize the diversion to sneak a look at your case notes.

He has written: "Plumbum oscillans."

3:04 pm - Dancing!!

Last night was such a blast. I had gotten an Instant Message from Cory, who used to be one of my primary two-steppin' partners, and he's moved back to town. He told me he was going to be out last night, and wanted to go dancing. Grab somebody's boyfriend, it's waltz time...Collapse )

10:08 pm - And turn, and turn, and turn...
... and then pick up your kneecap from where it dropped off on the floor, and put it back on, and keep turning...

Tonight was yoga. It was an excellent workout, which means that I'm dog tired - if I had to hold my hands up off the keyboard to type, instead of the lazy wrists-down posture I'm using, I would be Internet Disabled. We did this one asana called "Gazing Pose" which involved a wide stance with the feet and holding the arms straight out at shoulder height for a long.... long.... long time. Whee! I'm actually noticing more and more that I'm regaining my flexibility and strength, which is immensely satisfying. We also did a bunch of leg-strength poses, which are not my strongest suit, but that means I have plenty of room to grow into them.

After that, came home, had a bite to eat, and watered the plants. I'm going to go to bed now, and maybe in my dreams I'll be able to do Royal Pigeon...

11:18 am - One icon...
Decided that this woodless pencil drawing of a model will have to suffice for the time being - I drew it in life drawing class this past year. I want to get some actual silverpoint drawings up here, but need to scan them. They can be kind of tricky, because the contrast is relatively low - a delicate sterling line on a tinted paper doesn't give the scanner a lot of contrast to work with.

10:08 am - Intro: Silverpoint
After just over a year of regular live-journaling of my dreamlog, I've decided to set up a journal to keep track of some of my more mundane day-to-day stuff. I think it will be interesting, for me at least, to be able to look back and forth at the two, and see how my daily life influences my dream life.
